Participant 5 – ESI Group (France)

ESI logo

ESI Group (ESI) is a pioneer and world-leading provider in virtual prototyping that takes into account the physics of materials. ESI boasts a unique know-how in virtual product engineering, based on an integrated suite of coherent, industry-oriented applications. Addressing manufacturing industries, virtual product engineering aims to replace physical prototypes by realistically simulating a product’s behaviour during testing, to fine-tune fabrication and assembly processes in accordance with desired product performance, and to evaluate the impact on product use under normal or accidental conditions. ESI solutions fit into a single collaborative and open environment for end-to-end virtual prototyping. These solutions are delivered using the latest technologies, including immersive virtual reality to bring products to life in 3D, and helping customers make the right decisions throughout product development. The company employs about 1,000 high-level specialists worldwide covering more than forty countries. ESI is a French company, listed in compartment C of NYSE Euronext Paris.

ESI has developed an extensive suite of coherent, industry-oriented applications to realistically simulate products behaviour during testing and real life use; to refine manufacturing processes for desired product performance, and to evaluate the effect of the environment in which the product is deployed. All major disciplines are concerned, namely crashworthiness, occupant safety, and biomechanics, material rupture, NVH, and durability, vibro-acoustics, aerodynamics, aero-acoustics, and electromagnetics, within diversified manufacturing processes such as stamping, casting, welding, and heat treatment. Forming of composite and plastics is also concerned with applications focusing on components made of continuous fibres and thermoset or thermoplastic matrix. Manufacturing of composites parts usually goes through different operations. ESI offers an integrated solution that allows the analysis and optimization of each individual manufacturing operation but that also links these different operations by transferring material history (change in fibre orientations, curing degree, temperature distribution, etc.) from one operation to the next.

With a strong experience in electromagnetic modelling, heat treatment and forming of composite and plastics, combined with the Virtual Integration Platform, a process oriented engineering approach, and Visual DSS delivering the most advanced end-to-end decision support system to support simulation process and data management, ESI profile matches ideally with the objectives of this project.

Key tasks and expertise

ESI will contribute to the modelling and simulation tasks of the project which will result in the process simulator toolset for SIMUTOOL. ESI will then lead WP7 which involves the finalisation of the process simulator software and its packaging as standalone software and as a module that can be added to existing virtual manufacturing products of the company.
